FaQ: Panduan Kesehatan & Cedera Member

Spine & Posture / Masalah Tulang Belakang

Scoliosis

HNP / Hernia Nukleus Pulposus

  • Menandatangani T&C.
  • Tidak diperbolehkan mengikuti kelas Spine Corrector.
  • Tidak diperbolehkan mengikuti Reformer HIIT.
  • Tidak diperbolehkan mengikuti Silk Suspension HIIT.
  • Tidak diperbolehkan mengikuti Reformer 2.0.
  • Tidak diperbolehkan mengikuti Tower 2.0 (kelas level Medium to Hard & Hard).

Disclaimer:

Rekomendasi kelas:

  • Basic: Rollerfoam & Flexband
  • Equipment: Reformer & Tower

Joint, Muscle & Physical Injuries

Riwayat Cedera

Jadi, sudah nggak sakit bukan berarti riwayatnya nggak perlu disampaikan—better safe than sorry!

Nyeri Otot / Pegal Setelah Pilates

Sedikit nyeri/pegal setelah kelas? Jangan langsung panik.

Intinya, listen to your body.

Postpartum, Pregnancy & Related Conditions

Kehamilan, Pasca Melahirkan / Postpartum

  • Membantu menjaga tubuh tetap aktif selama kehamilan

  • Membantu memulihkan kekuatan otot tubuh
  • Mendukung pemulihan area core setelah kehamilan

Kalau belum memiliki clearance dokter, member wajib menandatangani T&C sebelum mengikuti kelas.

Caesar / Pascaoperasi Caesar

Neurological, Balance & Other Physical Conditions

Vertigo

Batasan kelas:

  • Tidak diperbolehkan: Spine, Silk, seluruh kelas Reformer, dan HIIT/Cardio.

Diperbolehkan:

  • Kelas Pilates lainnya dengan intensitas ringan–sedang, sesuai kondisi member.
  • Jika gejala masih muncul atau berulang, member wajib berkonsultasi dengan dokter terlebih dahulu sebelum mengikuti kelas.
Kelenjar Getah Bening

General Eligibility, Class Placement & Restrictions

Kriteria Private Class

  • Memiliki riwayat skoliosis >20°.
  • Memiliki keluhan tetapi tetap ingin mengikuti Group Class Happy Hour (HH), meskipun disarankan mengikuti Private/Group Class Prime.

Kalau punya riwayat penyakit atau kondisi medis tertentu, better check with your doctor first okay!

FaQ: Panduan Kesehatan & Cedera Member

Spine & Posture / Spinal Issues

Scoliosis

Scoliosis does not mean the body has to stop moving. By understanding your body’s condition, Pilates can still be part of your routine.

Can members with scoliosis join Pilates classes if they are not experiencing pain? Is there a minimum scoliosis degree limit?

  • Scoliosis <20°: may join Group Class as long as they have no complaints.
  • Scoliosis >20° with complaints: recommended to join Private Class with at least a Coach Apprentice.
  • Numbness or recurring pain in the lower back or shoulder area: recommended to join Private Class with at least a Coach Junior.

Many members with scoliosis, lower back pain, or back pain ask which class is suitable. What is each class intended for?

For more information regarding the categories and purposes of each Pilates class, such as Spine Corrector, Roller Foam, Tower, Reformer, Silk, and Flexband, members can access further information through the following website page: (Class Details Pages).

HNP / Hernia Nucleus Pulposus

Are members with HNP (Hernia Nucleus Pulposus) required to join Private Class?

Yes, members with HNP (Hernia Nucleus Pulposus), a condition where the disc between the vertebrae protrudes and may compress a nerve, are required to join Private Class. Because this condition requires special attention, especially when determining the exercises and class restrictions that may be followed, as follows:

  • Sign the T&C.
  • Not allowed to join Spine Corrector class.
  • Not allowed to join Reformer HIIT.
  • Not allowed to join Silk Suspension HIIT.
  • Not allowed to join Reformer 2.0.
  • Not allowed to join Tower 2.0 (Medium to Hard & Hard level classes).

Disclaimer:

Members are also advised to consult a doctor first to ensure that it is safe to participate in Pilates exercises.

Back / Lower Back Pain

Does back or lower back pain caused by work need to be included in the complaint group if it is below a pain scale of 4?

Not necessarily, as long as the pain is below a scale of 4 and does not persist continuously. However, it is important to pay attention to the frequency, duration, and timing of the pain. If the pain persists or reaches a scale of 4 or above, it must be included in the complaint group.

Disclaimer:

  • Pain caused by daily activities may still participate in class.
  • Pain caused by an accident or injury that requires treatment must be included in the complaint group.

Class recommendations:

  • Basic: Rollerfoam & Flexband
  • Equipment: Reformer & Tower

Joint, Muscle & Physical Injuries

Injury History

Experiencing muscle or joint pain or an injury?

Pilates can be one form of exercise that supports the recovery process, including for conditions such as lower back pain, pinched nerves, joint degeneration, and other physical complaints.

However, there are a few things to consider. Make sure your condition has been assessed and that you have received clearance from your doctor before joining a Pilates class.

Can members with an injury in the finger area join Group Class Pilates?

Yes, they can! Members with an injury in the finger area may still join Group Class Pilates as long as the injury does not interfere with movement or exercise activities.

However, temporarily avoid Flexband class until the finger is declared recovered, especially because Flexband exercises may involve the use and control of the hands and fingers.

If a member says they “no longer feel any pain” but has a history of injury, should they still be included in the complaint group?

Yes, they should still be included! Even if there is no pain now, their injury history still needs to be known by the coach.

This information will help the coach consider movements, intensity, and exercise limitations appropriate to the member’s condition, thereby minimizing the risk of recurring injury.

So, being pain-free now does not mean the history no longer needs to be shared—better safe than sorry!

Muscle Soreness / Aching After Pilates

A little soreness or aching after class? Don’t panic right away. Especially for members trying Pilates for the first time, the body may need time to adapt to the exercises.

How can you tell the difference between normal soreness from trying Pilates for the first time and abnormal pain after class?

Tried Pilates for the first time and your body feels like, “Wow, my muscles are actually working!” Don’t worry, muscle soreness after Pilates, especially for first-time members, is generally normal and can usually last for a maximum of 4 days.

But, if the pain persists for more than 4 days, becomes more severe, or is accompanied by numbness, tingling, sharp pain, or swelling, further evaluation is needed and consulting a doctor is recommended.

Can members who feel sore after Pilates return to class the next day?

Yes, they can, as long as the soreness is still within a normal range and is not accompanied by pain or limited movement.

In fact, light activity can help reduce soreness. But if the soreness is severe, interferes with movement, or is accompanied by increasing pain, there is no need to push through it—resting first may be a better option.

The key is, listen to your body. If your body still feels okay to move, you can continue. If your body needs a little time to recover, give it that time too.

Postpartum, Pregnancy & Related Conditions

Pregnancy, Postpartum / After Childbirth

The body changes as pregnancy progresses, and so does the way we move. Therefore, the Pilates experience during pregnancy needs to follow each stage and the individual’s condition.

What are the benefits of Pilates during and after pregnancy?

Pilates can be one form of exercise that helps you stay active while supporting your body as it adapts throughout pregnancy.

During Pregnancy, Pilates can help:

  • Help keep the body active throughout pregnancy
  • Support the body in preparing for childbirth
  • Help maintain muscle strength and control
  •  Support comfortable movement as the body changes throughout pregnancy

After Giving Birth, Pilates can also be part of the postpartum recovery process, such as:

  • Help restore muscle strength
  • Gradually rebuild body control and stability
  • Support core recovery after pregnancy
  • Help minimize the risk of persistent diastasis recti through exercises suited to your body’s condition

However, it is important to remember that every pregnancy and postpartum journey is different. Before doing Pilates during pregnancy or after giving birth, it is recommended to consult with your obstetrician (OB-GYN) first.

Can pregnant members join Semi Private?

No, pregnant members cannot join Semi Private at this time. Members are required to join Private Class with at least a Coach Junior so the exercises can be adjusted to the stage of pregnancy and the body’s condition.

With (Private Class), supervision can be more optimal for balance, postural changes, exercise intensity, and body positioning. This helps minimize the risk of falls, injuries, pain, and excessive pressure on the abdominal/pelvic area.

Can members who have recently given birth join Pilates classes, and when is the right time to start exercising again?

Yes, they may return to exercise, but the timing should be adjusted according to the body’s recovery process.

Members who have given birth vaginally may join Pilates once their body is ready. Meanwhile, members who have given birth by caesarean section may join Pilates 6 months after the caesarean surgery, while still considering their condition and doctor’s recommendations.

Can members who had a normal delivery ≥3 months ago and have received medical clearance join Group Class Pilates without being included in the complaint group?

Yes, they can join class if the member had a normal delivery ≥3 months ago, has received medical clearance, and has no complaints; they may join Group Class Pilates without being included in the complaint group.

If they do not yet have medical clearance, the member must sign the T&C before joining class.

Caesarean / Post-Caesarean Surgery

Is it safe for members who recently underwent caesarean surgery (≤1 year) to join Group Class without T&C and a wristband?

No, members who are still within ≤1 year after caesarean surgery should not immediately join Group Class. Members are still advised to join Private Class so the exercises can be adjusted to their condition and recovery process.

Disclaimer:

Before returning to exercise, members are also advised to consult a doctor first to ensure that it is safe to participate in Pilates exercises.

Diastasis Recti/Osteoarthritis

Can members with Diastasis Recti or osteoarthritis join Group Class? What are the limitations?

For conditions like these, we do not recommend joining Group Class yet! Postpartum members are advised to undergo a medical examination first, especially to determine whether Diastasis Recti is present.

If a member has Diastasis Recti, they are advised to join Private Class with at least a Coach Apprentice (AP) so the exercises can be adjusted to their condition.

Neurological, Balance & Other Physical Conditions

Vertigo

Can members with vertigo join Pilates classes?

Yes, as long as they are not currently experiencing vertigo symptoms!

Members with vertigo may join Group Class Pilates if they are not experiencing symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, loss of balance, or a spinning sensation. If symptoms are present, better pause first and give the body time to stabilize.

Class restrictions:

  • Not allowed: Spine, Silk, all Reformer classes, and HIIT/Cardio.

Allowed:

  • Other Pilates classes with light–moderate intensity, according to the member’s condition.
  • If symptoms are still present or recur, the member must consult a doctor first before joining class.
Lymph Nodes

If a member has swollen lymph nodes, can they join Pilates classes?

For this condition, members are advised to consult a doctor first to confirm their condition and obtain clearance to exercise.

Once declared safe, the member may join Private Class with at least a Coach Junior, so the exercises can be adjusted to the member’s condition. So, make sure your body gets the green light before starting your workout!

VAS / Pain Scale

VAS/Pain Scale

Is the VAS scale only used for pain such as radiating heat, stabbing, electric-shock-like, pulling, or numbness? Does soreness also need to be rated using the VAS scale?

Yes, soreness counts too!

The VAS scale is still used for all types of pain complaints, including soreness, not only pain such as radiating heat, stabbing, electric-shock-like, or pulling sensations.

Therefore, every member with a complaint or injury must be asked about and assessed using the VAS scale. No matter how minor the complaint, it is still worth mentioning—so the coach has a clearer picture of the member’s condition before exercise.

General Eligibility, Class Placement & Restrictions

Private Class Criteria

Everybody has different needs. For certain conditions, more personalized training can help adjust movements to the member’s condition.

Who is recommended to join Private Class, and which conditions are not allowed to join Group Class Pilates?

Members with specific conditions, such as:

  • Elderly
  • Injuries or limited mobility
  • History of heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • CTS (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome) with numbness complaints in the wrist.

Disclaimer:

Members with a history of certain diseases or medical conditions are advised to consult a doctor first to ensure that it is safe to participate in Pilates exercises.

Member Age

What are the minimum and maximum age limits for members to join Pilates classes?

Pilates is not about, “you can at this age, but you can’t at that age.” What matters more is how the exercises can be adjusted to each member’s age and condition.

Here are the limits:

  • (Group Class Pilates): Age 15–50 years, provided there are no complaints or special conditions.
  • (Private Class Pilates): No age limit. Members under 15 years old may join Private Class Pilates with exercises adjusted to their age and condition. Private Class is recommended with at least a Coach Senior.
Body Weight

Are there any weight restrictions?

In general, there is no weight restriction for joining Pilates classes. However, specifically for Silk Suspension, there is a maximum weight limit of 90 kg.

So, no need to worry about the number—let’s just focus on moving your body well!

T&C for Certain Conditions

What cases require members to sign the T&C?

There are several conditions that require T&C approval before a member joins class. So, let’s understand the conditions to keep everything safe and comfortable during training.

Members who need to sign the T&C include:

  • History of scoliosis >20°.
  • Has a complaint but still wants to join Group Class Happy Hour (HH), even though Private/Group Class Prime is recommended.
  • History of HNP (pinched nerve) or major surgery, such as caesarean <6 months, tumor, and other medical conditions.
  • Diabetes.

The T&C is part of the process to ensure members understand their condition and exercise limitations before joining class.

Doctor Consultation

For certain medical conditions, does the member need to consult a doctor first?

If you have a history of illness or a certain medical condition, better check with your doctor first, okay!

FaQ: General Questions

I’m still a beginner. Which class should I start with?

If you’re still a beginner and are just starting to explore Pilates, you can begin with a Basic Class, such as Mat Class or Matprops Class.

For Matprops, you’ll use small props such as Rollerfoam, Flexband, and Ring, so the workout remains beginner-friendly while offering more variety.

If you’d like to try an Equipment Class, we recommend starting with a Happy Hour or Reguler Class because the movements are more beginner-friendly and can help you build a Pilates foundation first. The Life Pilates team is also ready to help recommend the level that suits you best.

Disclaimer:

If you’d like to try a more varied class, you can also choose Prime Class. HOWEVER, Prime Class is intended for members who already have previous Pilates experience, as the class has several levels with more challenging movements.

For those who are still beginners, we recommend building your Pilates foundation first through Basic, Happy Hour, or Reguler Class before trying Prime Class. This helps ensure that you can follow the movements more safely and comfortably while minimizing the risk of injury.

What classes are available at Life Pilates?

At Life Pilates, classes are divided into two main types: Basic Class and Equipment Class.

Basic Class consists of:

  • Mat Class — uses a mat without additional props.
  • Matprops Class — uses a mat with small Pilates props such as Ring, Rollerfoam, Flexband, Small Ball, and Big Ball.

Meanwhile, Equipment Class uses larger Pilates equipment, such as:

  • Reformer
  • Tower
  • Spine Corrector
  • Chair
  • Silk Suspension
What is the difference between Happy Hour, Reguler, and Prime Class?
